District-Wide Prayer Walk
March 29 | 10:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Prayer walking is one way we can respond powerfully to COVID-19, while connecting us with our neighbors, listening for God, and getting some fresh air. We have a chance to truly find more about our neighbors and how we might be in ministry with them. One of the key things that is hampering many churches is that we expect people to come to us. The reality is that the vast majority of the people in our communities won’t. They’re suspect of church and Christians. The excellent news is that they like Jesus. The answer is we need to bring Jesus to them.
Just like the four friends who brought their sick brother to Jesus by lowering him through the roof, we have to find out where people are gathering in our neighborhoods and help them experience Jesus. Our district-wide prayer walk will help us do that.
It’s very simple. It’s simply walking, listening, praying, and observing. We can then begin to dream of how we might take ministry and the message of Jesus to people in places around our community. This is low threat. It’s not knocking on people’s doors. It’s simply praying and observing. We can do this, together!
Go: Neighborhood, park, or parking lot of a shopping center. Walk alone or with members of your household. If you are homebound, sit on your porch or in your driveway and pray for 30 minutes.
Pray: If you encounter a stranger, smile, engage in loving conversation (while adhering to social distancing guidelines).
Observe: Make observations about your community. What is God showing you?
Encounter: If you encounter a stranger, smile and engage in a loving conversation in order to make a connection.
