Re-opening decision details:

The church reopened for in-person worship in late June, as new COVID-19 cases in Fulton County began to significantly increase. In mid-July, all of Fulton County spiked to a positivity rate of 15%. The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive who have been tested.  Based on this quantitative data and qualitative input from Lay Leadership, a decision was made to suspend in-person worship.

Since that decision, we have been monitoring detailed data from the Fulton County Board of Health. This is the source data for the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 statistics widely reported through various media outlets. This report, which is updated 3 times each week is available here. Within this report, the rate of new cases is available by specific zip codes in North Fulton.

Each week, as the metrics continued trending down from the peak on July 15, the Leadership Team analyzed the data and determine if the quantitative data indicated we should consider reopening in-person worship. Our focus has been on the rate of new cases in North Fulton, tracked by the zip codes our congregation lives in, and the positivity rate for Fulton County.

Based on quantitative data showing new COVID-19 cases in the North Fulton zip codes significantly decreasing and the Positivity Rate of 8% for all of Fulton County (below the “Red Zone” rate of 10%), along with qualitative input from Lay Leadership, a decision has been made to resume in-person worship on September 6.

We will continue providing all worship services on-line and trust our people will self-select on worshipping in-person or on-line, based on their individual circumstances and what is best for their family. The same protocols and processes used when we opened on June 28 will remain in place, including 9 foot distancing in the sanctuary, controlled seating, and exit processes to maintain social distancing. Masks will be required at all times, including during worship services, and attendance will be recorded to ensure we are able to contact anyone participating during in-person worship.
