Year of Ministry - Day of Hope 2008
Question and Answers
1. What is the Year of Ministry-Day of Hope campaign?
This is the annual campaign that helps fund Mount Pisgah’s general mission and ministry operations. This underwrites our ministries for the year that begins July 1, 2008 and ends June 30, 2009. It is through the ministries of Mount Pisgah that we reach God’s people to share the good news of Jesus Christ and make disciples.
2. Do the funds from this campaign underwrite staff salaries, program costs and maintaining Mount Pisgah facilities?
Yes, the pastors and staff, program costs, facilities and all operating costs associated with sharing the gospel depend wholly on the money given during this campaign and on other gifts that are not pledged. We also receive gifts that are designated to specific ministries that help provide necessary resources (e.g., Global missions gifts, compassion gifts, special offerings to the homeless ministry, etc.).
3. What is the difference between this campaign and the one we just had at the end of last year?
The Live the Vision campaign is a capital missions campaign designated for specific items. It is a three year campaign that will allow Mount Pisgah to accomplish goals beyond those in our general operating campaign. The Live the Vision campaign has four main pillars: $3 million for a new student ministry building, $2 million for global missions, $375,000 for compassion ministries, and the balance above these commitments goes directly to mortgage reduction. The Year of Ministry-Day of Hope campaign is an annual campaign and is used strictly for the daily ministry operations. The funds from this campaign maintain our facilities, pay our staff, and support ministry programming. A portion of the funds from this campaign supports our partnerships with community partners such as North Fulton Community Charities, and New Hope Ministry.
4. If the Live the Vision campaign is a 3-year campaign, this gives me 3 years to fulfill my pledge. How long do I have to fulfill the Year of Ministry-Day of Hope campaign?
The annual Year of Ministry-Day of Hope campaign lasts one year beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2009. Mount Pisgah anticipates that the amount pledged will be given during this time period. If unanticipated individual circumstances prevent a donor from fulfilling a pledge during this period, the donor may notify the church accounting department to adjust their pledge at any time.
5. If I pledge a weekly or monthly amount but my circumstances change, is it a problem if I give my total pledge amount once during the year or at the end of the year?
Absolutely not, changing circumstances such as a job loss, a change in bonus structure, or a job transfer do occur. Your pledge is made with your current circumstances in mind and if something changes, you can notify the church’s accounting department to raise or lower your pledge.
6. Can I do on-line giving, or have an automatic deduction from my accounts?
The accounting department is more than happy to work with you in anyway that is helpful. You may contact Darlene Walls at 678-336-3116 or Helen Caudill at 678-336-3159 to discuss the best solution for you. The front page of the Mount Pisgah website also has a tab for on-line giving that gives you instructions for setting up your giving.
7. Why is it important that I pledge vs. giving when I am led to?
There are both spiritual and practical reasons why pledging is important. In much the same way we “Confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord,” (Romans 10:9) pledging is an outward and visible acknowledgement that we really are only God’s stewards of what we have and that everything we have belongs to Him. Our tithes and offerings are a spiritual discipline and by openly pledging them we acknowledge to whom we belong. Practically speaking, the pledges made during the Year of Ministry-Day of Hope campaign provide the foundation for Mount Pisgah’s annual ministry planning and budget development. As good stewards, we must plan our ministry year within a realistic expectation of our anticipated resources which are based largely upon the pledges of members like you.
8. I’ve never made the commitment to tithe before because there never seems to be enough money left after our living expenses. How do I begin?
The best way to begin tithing is to make it a priority and then simply commit to it as your goal. Some are able to tithe right away. Others may have to begin with a percentage less than 10% and work toward the goal of 10% or more as quickly as possible. Setting aside a percentage to give back to God first, instead of waiting to see if there is anything left over for Him (there rarely is), is what God has called us to do throughout scripture. Deuteronomy 8:18 says “Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” When we put God first in our lives then the impossible happens. We are simply stewards of God’s rich blessings and our lives are not our own. I Corinthians 6:19-20 says “You are not your own, you were bought at a price.” We honor God with service, our talents, and our treasure and we give as an act of worship.
9. Mount Pisgah appears to have plenty of money with its great facilities and all the staff who work at the church. Why does the church need my money?
There is an old saying that “The Gospel is free to all, but ministry takes money.” Obviously, Mount Pisgah wouldn’t have its great facilities and there wouldn’t be any staff if there were no resources to support them. God doesn’t need your money but tithing and offering a portion of what He has given you is one of the ways we worship Him. The Mount Pisgah family wants you to experience what it feels like to be blessed by being a blessing to others. There is no better way to acknowledge your role as God’s steward, as His personal manager of what He has entrusted to you, than by releasing a portion back to Him. Since you and everything you have belongs to God, you can’t really “give” Him anything. You can only release it back to him as an act of worship. Mount Pisgah will continue to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with whatever resources we have, but the more you and others experience the joy of a generous heart, the more Mount Pisgah will be able to reach the Least, the Last and the Lost, Making Disciples of Jesus Christ…Here, There, and Everywhere.
10. Will there ever be a time when Mount Pisgah will quit having pledge campaigns?
YWhat a wonderful day it will be when the body of Christ, with generous and cheerful hearts, worships God in every way…including tithing and offering. Our hope at Mount Pisgah is that there will come a time when enough of the church responds generously to God’s call so there is no longer a need for campaigns, capital or operating. Mount Pisgah is situated in a community richly blessed in so many ways, so it is not a matter of the availability of sufficient resources, but rather how we choose to invest them…in things temporal or in things eternal!
